Epitome of the Ancient History of Japan with illustrations of the Principal Historical Personages, taken from Ancient Pictures by N McLeod published by the Rising Sun Office, Nagasaki 1878. A 1st edition in this format. This is the Appended Edition. In stiff decorated card covers size 14 by 10 cm. 154 pages. With 15 uncoloured engravings that illustrate characters including the last Shogun, Heki Shigimori, Ashikaga, Yoshitzune, Kiyomori and the Empress. The last page is numbered 153 but for some reason the printer or publisher has chosen to fold the last two lines of text under the bottom of the page so that they appear upside down at the bottom of page 154. Bookplate to front endpaper. Some minor rubbing to the head of the spine but overall Good to VG condition. In a modern presentation case in VG condition.
