Venus attired by the Graces.

Book Description
Engraving with original hand-colouring, an early 19th century issue on wove paper watermarked J. Whatman, 1807, a few repairs in the wide lower margin, all outside the plate, [BM Satires 9587].
Dealer Notes
A social satire on the vulgar pursuit of fashion. A unattractive squat, plump, woman with bulbous features, sits squarely on a stool, her large feet in heavy shoes and wrinkled stockings not reaching the floor. On either side of her she is attended by three other, equally ugly, short women, one holding a skirt, another a bonnet and the third is wiping a chamber pot with her apron. On the floor in the foreground are a large tankard, two combs, hair tongs, a pin-cushion, fan, and a ribbon inscribed ‘Set Your Thoughts On Things Above’.
