King George IV seated left, glass in hand with elbow resting on a table by a large bowl labelled Champagne Punch, being addressed by Lord and Lady Conyngham dressed as an innkeeper and wife, appealing to the king for the opportunity to let Windsor Castle in return for hospitality provided, George acknowledging how he has been allowed to help himself to everything, and Lady Conyngham smiling on, as she confirms how she has pleased all her customers. The cuckolded husband, Lord Conyngham, was appointed Constable and Governor of Windsor Castle. Lady Conyngham had been George’s mistress since 1819.
