First edition, copy no. 270 of 380, quarto (290x225x30mm), original cream buckram, titled in gold on front board and spine, slightly soiled with 2 small brown marks on front, contemporary wood engraved bookplate on front free endpaper, a.e.g., all plates with printed tissue guards, signed by Max Beerbohm on limitation page, includes an extra plate in pocket at rear, signed and dated, Max.

50 plates, the frontispiece and extra plate being coloured. Some absolutely classic Max cartoons – my favourites are of Lytton Strachey, The Sitwells, and “The Rare, The Rather Awful Visits of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, to Windsor Castle”, and the one of Aldous Huxley is worth the money alone.
