Book Description
                        This is an unusual item of ephemera relating to Cecil James Sharp (1859-1924) the famous English-born musician & musicologist. He is widely remembered as a collector of English folk song & dance. In 1911 he founded the English Folk Dance Society and he initiated the teaching of folk song & dance in English schools. Between 1916 & 1918 he visited the Appalachian Mountains (USA) three times to collect songs of English origin. 
The letter bearing Cecil Sharp's home address : '183, Adelaide Road, Hampstead, N.W.' is addressed to a 'Mr Mann' and refers to expenses and publishing questions. It is double-sided and SIGNED by Cecil Sharp on the reverse side.
