The favoured edition of this classic county history, noted for the finely engraved plates, portraits and maps and for the many pedigrees ( several folding ) of the more notable Lancashire families. This copy would appear to have belonged to one of those families, the Heskeths. The surname Hesketh is handwritten on the front free endpaper of each volume. This is a large paper copy ( page height 31.5 cms ) and has the 46 extra plates. Sometimes referred to as a ‘subscriber’s copy’ ( see the York Minster Library’s copy Q42.72BAI ).
