Book Description

[ANON] MANUSCRIPT. A late 18th century booklet with eight pen and ink and colour drawings of sword fighting with rapiers, a sabre, lanterns and cloaks, each titled in French, seven with figures of fencers and one with equipment, each page approx. 19.5cm x 11.5cm. In the original paper wraps, covered with pen trials but with the title “Cahier d’Armes’ still decipherable. Original sewing still in place. The paper is thin, so there is some colour bleed through. The images appear to be copied from “The School of Fencing”, 1763 by Domenico Angelo. The plates were originally designed and engraved by John Gwyn. A few corners are turned, but generally in good original condition. No date but the style late c18th we think.
Author after ANGLEO, Domenice
