The album is in Very Good plus condition, a little dusty on the covers, and with the spine reinforced with contemporary paper. The provenance for both albums is contained in the second, the drawings being obviously by the same hand. [ii] Landscape format drawing book, bound in the original boards, marbled paper over half leather. Ownership inscription to the front pastedown “Frederick Luxmore” Approx 26.3 cm x 21.5 cm. Pp68 approx. used, with pen and pencil drawings, [some unfinished drafts], of military and equestrian subjects. The binding has been recased in the original boards, and pages which had become loose through spine damage have been reattached, and other excised plates have also been bound in. The spine has been repaired, and inner hinges reinforced. The binding, still in its original covers is now sound.
Luxmore died at the battle of Alma at the age of 25. A full account of his regiment’s involvement and an account of his death can be read online at the Lancashire Infantry Museum, searching for Frederick Luxmore or Battle of Alma.
