A good copy of this account of female exploration into Saudi Arabia. This is Barbara Toy’s third book in her famous travel series showing her with her Land rover Pollyanna – or ‘the desert gazelle’ - as it came to be known.

Toy became curious about Saudi Arabia predominately due to its inaccessibility. Whilst in Kuwait, her hosts sent a letter King Abdulaziz requesting permission for her to be able to visit. A surprisingly positive reply was received and she was invited to stay in his palace. She was treated as his guest of honour, becoming one of the first Western women to officially explore the country.
