In the ‘Bibliographical Note,’ which closes the book, Roth observes that the ‘above pages are based almost in their entirety upon contemporary pamphlets and engravings in the collection of the Author’. Indeed, the historian and editor of the Encyclopaedia Judaica left his books and manuscripts from his unrivalled collection of Judaica to the University of Leeds. Edward Goldston had a hand in the Mandrake Press, which published Roth’s only novel, Iscariot (1929).
