The First UK printing published by Eyre and Spottiswoode, London in 1961. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a little pushing to the spine ends and slight fading to the blue top-stain. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition with just some fading of the blue colouring to the spine. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been signed by the editor, Michael Ward to the title page. Additionally signed on the half-title by an array of mountaineers and travel writers : George Lowe, Edmund Hillary, Alfred Gregory, Ian McNaught-Davis, Maurice Herzog, Walter Bonatti and Jan Morris. Hillary, Gregory and Lowe were fellow mountaineers on the first successful ascent of Everest expedition in 1953. James (later 'Jan') Morris was The Times Newspaper correspondent on the same expedition and broke the successful ascent news to the world. 2023 marked the 70th anniversary of this milestone event.
