The First UK printing published by Eyre and Spottiswoode, London in 1961. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a little pushing to the spine ends and slight fading to the blue top-stain. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition with just some fading of the blue colouring to the spine. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been signed by the editor, Michael Ward to the title page. Additionally signed on the half-title by an array of mountaineers and travel writers : George Lowe, Edmund Hillary, Alfred Gregory, Ian McNaught-Davis, Maurice Herzog, Walter Bonatti and Jan Morris. Hillary, Gregory and Lowe were fellow mountaineers on the first successful ascent of Everest expedition in 1953. James (later 'Jan') Morris was The Times Newspaper correspondent on the same expedition and broke the successful ascent news to the world. 2023 marked the 70th anniversary of this milestone event. The original publisher's Prospectus is loosely laid in. A selection of prose and poems, with sections devoted to the Alps, Everest, the Himalayas and other ranges. Central colour plate, 24 B/W plates and coloured end-papers. 22 line drawings and 3 maps in the text. A sharp copy and very elusive with such attributes
