John Duke Coleridge, First Baron Coleridge (1820-1894) was the great nephew of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Elected Liberal MP for Exeter in 1865, when the Liberals came to government in 1868 he was appointed Solicitor-General under Gladstone, and in 1871 became Attorney General. In 1880 he was made Lord Chief Justice.
