French Royalist Publicity Poster Philippe Comte de Paris
Book Description
Publicity Poster for Philippe Comte de Paris circa 1882. On paper size 44 by 32 cm. A colour lithograph depicting Philippe as a man of action with a social conscience. Printed by Thomas and Conferon, Toulouse. The poster employs a series of colour images to portray him in various scenes with the French flag above and an image of peace, trade and prosperity below. Text in French explains his royal connections, his experience, patriotism, training and his suitability for office. Through his father, the Duke of Orléans and his grandfather, Louis Philippe, he had claimed to be the king of France. Presumably by the 1880s with France a republic once more he and his supporters felt the need to keep the royal flame alive- though he was living in exile in England at the time. Some small nicks to margins but overall Good condition.
