Book Description
This facsimile reprint of the 1876 original was published in January 1975 by the 'Land of Cokaygne Ltd.' for the Cambridge History Agency. The sketches were reproduced by offset lithographic printing process on Queen Anne Antique Cream card & the text on White Register Offset Cartridge. The covers are blue Energy tinted bound four sheet. & the book's pages are bound with red cord ties. There are 26 plates with facing descriptive text. To the front, following a facsimile of original titles, is John Nicholson's introductory essay: "Thoughts on the republication of Redfarn's Old Cambridge" in which he discourses on the parallels between the loss of Redfarn's Cambridge to the Victorian rebuilding of the City and, a century later, the loss of the Victorian Lion Yard & of Petty Cury, one of England's most famous streets, to the modern shopping centre that replaced them. Another area of Cambridge, 'The Kite' was also at the time of publication, under threat & since demolished to make room for the Grafton Shopping Centre. Also to the front is an Index of Places with a facing b/w. map & Redfarn;s original preface.
