The author led four expeditions to the Karakorum. This, the narrative of the 2nd, explored the Batura, Hispar and Shimshal glaciers. His wife Jenny Visser-Hooft accompanied him on all four expeditions, and her own account of the expedition appeared as Among the Kara-Korum Glaciers (London, 1926).
