A broad and detailed tour through the wine growing districts of Portugal during the harvest and wine making season and a survey of the most used grape varieties in each region and their uses and characteristics, in order to observe wine making techniques with the aim of improving competition with foreign wines and to prepare the transformation of the Portuguese wine industry.
The work is divided into three parts relating to the north of the Douro, between the Douro and the Tagus, and south of the Tagus. with observations from economic, scientific, social, and industrial points of view.
