Macbeth, King Lear & Contemporary History: Inkling Owen Barfield's Copy
Book Description
The copy of Owen Barfield, with his ownership inscription dated 1922 to front endpaper, and occasional pencil annotations and lines to margins throughout. Publisher's cloth, paper spine label intact; label toned, extremities rather bumped resulting in minor losses, a few occasional marks to the boards, front board with a dent to the edge, the spine is a touch discoloured. Inscription of Barfield in ink to ffep. Complete with second spine label tipped in at rear pastedown. Pages with just one or two spots to prelims. Binding remains firm. A smart book used by Barfield during his time as a writer in the 1920s; he went on to become a prominent Inkling together with J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis, and his influence on the fantasy writers was vast. His daughter Lucy was Lewis' godchild and inspired Lucy Pevensie in Lewis' hugely influential Chronicles of Narnia series.
