A sequel to The Sportswriter and now the second of a five part series, Independence Day won the Pulitzer Prize and PEN/FaulknerAward for Fiction in 1996, becoming the first novel ever to win both awards in a single year. 
The novel follows Frank Bascombe, a New Jersey real estate agent (and ex-sportswriter), through the holiday weekend as he visits his ex-wife, his troubled son, his current lover, the tenants of one of his properties, and some clients of his who have been having trouble finding the perfect house. Of similar style to the John Updike "Rabbit" novels.
The title page has been signed by the author with no personal dedication. 
In fine condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. The end papers  and pages are free from marks, tears and inscriptions. 
The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in near fine condition with a little darkening to the white coloured areas.
