Humility: A night thought.
Book Description
Charles Philpot (1759-1823) won the Seatonian prize on two occasions – 1790 Fouth: a vision, and 1791, Humility: a night thought. The Monthly Review commented in 1792 ‘Though the author of this poem was rewarded with the Seatonian prize, we cannot bestow on him unlimited commendation. In perspicuity, the charm of good poetry, this production is very deficient’.
