An un-published novel of 50,000 words written by Tommy Wilkinson a former miner from Ashington Colliery, a pit village just north of Newcastle and now the site of Woodhorn Museum The title is "Blakewell Towers" and it appears to be set in the 1930's [The author died c.1997]
The story centers around Septimus Blake joint owner with Harold Wells of The Blakewell Mining Co. Probably based on Woodhorn or Ashington Colliery and references Whitley Bay, Alnwick, Morpeth,Newcastle,The Lambton Worm etc. It is written in very gritty Northumbrian Pitmatic "yakka" dialect [but not without literary ambitions - one can't help but wonder if he's read DHL] and the story involves death, murder and rape with political overtones.
