The sub-title of BLACK SAILED TRADERS is 'The Keels &Wherries of Norfolk & Suffolk'. Once a familiar sight on the rivers & broads of these two counties they have now largely disappeared owing to the rapid eclipse by steam & diesel power. In this study , first published in 1961, Roy Clark has evoked the hey-day of sail in East Anglia describing the wherries & their builders, and linking this to the history of the rivers and the breed of men associated with them.
