Arthur Holmes’ sporting Box of Delights
Book Description
HOLMES (Arthur) A set of 12 three-dimensional country sport dioramas, "Box of Delights".12 (complete) wooden sets of hand made and painted scenes, each with a character, detachable fishing rods made of bamboo bound with twine. The pieces are individually numbered in 3 detachable trays with leather lifting straps, each with an oval base. Each scene signed in ink by the artist Arthur Holmes with compartments to slot in pieces, bases approx 163mm x 95 x 10 mm, the tallest piece 220 mm. There is some surface soiling, a couple of pieces repaired or restored, all contained in the original custom-made wooden slatted and lidded box with metal clasp, no longer functioning, a couple of stains and marks, circa 1920
