                        First edition, limited to 1000 copies.  "With seventy-nine illustrations in colour and black & white." Original brownish-grey boards and white buckram spine (lightly soiled) and gilt titled burgundy label (trifle rubbed). Spine tips worn; shadow of earlier label removed from lower spine. Top edge stained blackish-grey; others uncut. From a Montreal heritage library, with its bookplate and "For reference..." inkstamp on front & rear end-papers. Neat ink accession number at bottom of p.1 and blind-embossed stamp at p.9. Contents excellent, without any other library markings.

                            Angelica Kauffmann (1741 - 1807) was one of the founding members – of which only two were women – of the Royal Academy. She was a fine portraitist and decorative artist, skilled in the historical and allegorical styles. This biography also contains a detailed list of her works, including those exhibited at the Royal Academy.
