He was admitted a Licentiate of the College of Physicians 1st April, 1765." The Second Edition; A much expanded, and updated development of his first edition of 1755, translating De Morbis Veneris Libri Sex, by Jean Astruc (1684-1766), French professor of medicine who wrote the first major work on syphilis and venereal diseases. A very good full brown calf leather hardback, with raised bands, and gilt titles. The original contemporary boards have been re-backed and a new calf spine added. Original covers scuffed and worn, but professionally restored, and all soundly bound. Text is very good throughout, with some occasional light scattered spotting, but a very smart copy indeed, of an uncommon medical text.
