                        Published by Longmans, Green and Co, London, 1899, first edition, first impression. Half leather binding with marbled paper boards. Five raised bands to spine. Gilt lettering to compartments two and three, gilt decoration to other compartments.  Teg. 9ins x 6ins, xvi, 286pp plus frontis and 45pp plates (71 images). All  plates present as listed. Photographs were taken by Gertrude Jekyll herself. Heavy foxing to blanks following marbled endpapers, to half title and to last page of index. Gift inscription dated 1899 to half title page. Binding by Mudie. Apart from the foxing, this is a VG  copy of the true first edition in an attractive binding.
