Book Description

A charming collection of nineteen mid 19th century watercolours and drawings all depicting young children, at play, eating, and sketching. They appear to be children from a well-to-do family. One is dated March 11, 1851, another March 12, 1851, and one April 1, 1851. The only name present is on one pencil drawing, ‘Charlie’. The children are depicted in thirteen watercolour drawings with, a lighted candle, ducklings, riding a cushion as a play-horse, playing a game, with a spade, eating an apple, asleep in a crib, eating at the table, drawing, standing on a sofa, wearing a military cap, drawing a plant, playing marbles. 18cm x 26cm to 14cm x 23cm. There are also six smaller pencil drawings (c11cm x 19cm), depicting them washing in a tub, making shadows on a wall, with a toy whip, on a pouffe, playing with a kitten and ball, with a paint box.
