A series of letters on various medical topics, including the usefulness of medical knowledge to clergymen, fevers, fits, epidemics, wounds, burns, abscesses, bleeding, inflammations (including of the brain), suspended animation, poisoning, chronic ailments and more. List of subscribers annotated by previous owner at the front and tables of essentials and drugs recommended for the Village Pastor s medicine chest in an appendix at the rear.

Dealer Notes

Skrimshire has a small, but distinct place in the history of English literature. He was physician to the major English rural poet John Clare, who suffered from mental illness. In 1841 Skrimshire certified the poet insane and in 1841 committed him to the asylum where Clare spent the rest of his life. Uncommon.
