                        The First UK printing published by the Shakespeare Head Press & Ernest Benn Ltd in 1923, of this special illustrated edition. Number ’55’ of the special edition of only 100 copies printed on Batchelor’s Kelmscott hand-made paper and specially bound for the publishers by Zaehnsdorf in full oasis morocco with gilt decorations. Signed by Harley Granville-Barker (Introduction), Charles Ricketts and fellow artist Albert Rutherston (In charge of art editorship for the series). With 12 striking tissue guarded colour illustrations by Charles Ricketts. Part of a series ‘The Players' Shakespeare’, published on the 400th anniversary of the First Folio. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Lower corners lightly bumped. A couple of light scratches to the rear cover. The spine is slightly faded and the bands gently rubbed. A hint of spotting to the text-block otherwise clean internally. Gilt titling and decorations remain bright. A very handsome production.
