Book Description

First edition. 11 engraved plates with additional illustrations within text printed on India paper. Recent reback (1980), half calf over marbled boards, spine with five raised bands, contrasting red label and gilt title, lines and dentelles. 4to., pp. xix, 236 [2]. Prelims include dedication to Thomas Brandram esquire and List of Subscribers; Directions to Binder leaf at rear. Previous owner,s signature on title page : S. Groom:, occasional annotations in pencil in margins. Ink stain on p. 154 light foxing to plates, plate X heavily foxed but a nicely bound copy of an influential work by the renowned Victorian architect and writer. Section I deals with the materials employed in building; Section II with methods of combining the principal materials; Section III with the Orders and their parts; Section IV with a Cursory View of Ancient Architecture and Section V is a Dictionary of Technical Terms.
