A notorious and rare example of 19th-century underground erotica and "soft pornography" masking as biography. The author John "Jack" Mitford (1782-1831) was an impoverished former Naval Officer writing for the London Grub Street Underground Market (Though the title is also known in French (1837) & Spanish (1843) editions) Classified as such, they were frequently read to bits or destroyed by subsequent generations. Many known survivals exist only as fragments or are locked away in Institutional " Private Cases" such as the British Library's restricted erotica collection The New York Library Rare Books Division holds a copy of the Duncombe edition and the Bibliotheque Nationale de France Paris 1837 but it is absent from almost all major university and public library systems and no other copies are traceable on the open market, Small 8o.(16X10cm) in later cloth-backed marbled boards 156pps.with hand-coloured Aquatint Frontispiece and 3 plates Note : Significant Text Loss: Ending at page 156 means it is missing the final 36 pages of text.
