(a matched set) pp. xxx, 349 & xiii, 338; photogravure frontispiece to each vol., b&w photo. illusts. inc. some double-page, illusts. to text, 3 large folding maps to rear pocket of vol. II; minor spotting, but generally clean and very good in the original blue cloth, silver vignettes to upper boards, lettered in gilt to upper covers and spines, rather faded to spines (as often), vignettes a little marked. A presentation copy from the author, inscribed by Mawson to front blank of volume 1 "To Lord Denman in warm appreciation of great help afforded the expedition from Douglas Mawson 15th March 1916".

                            Spence 774; Renard 1021; Taurus 100; Rosove 217.A1. Douglas Mawson led the Australasian Antarctic Expedition to explore the Antarctic continent south of Australia. The scientific results of the expedition were published in a series of reports, and Mawson’s narrative of the expedition appeared as The Home of the Blizzard. He presented this copy to Thomas Denman (the 3rd Baron Denman), the fifth Governor- General of Australia who both donated funds to the expedition and acted as go-between for Mawson with the British King; Denman Glacier, discovered by the expediion, was named after him.
