Rambles round Eton and Harrow
Book Description
Published by Chatto & Windus, London, 1882, limited edition de luxe of 250 copies with the plates printed on China paper. This no 55. Later full, highly polished, morocco binding. A one-off unique design. Gilt lettering to spine and to front board. Coloured leather inlays depicting a tower and a spire to front board. The inlays produce an almost 3D effect. There is a pencil note on the first blank page that the binding was executed by Frank Broomhead. 10.75ins x 7.25ins, marbled endpapers, limitation page, xi, (i), 290pp plus 16pp plates. Also 36 illustrations within the text producing the total of 52 illustrations referred to on the title page. Occasional light foxing to text pages. Minor rubbing to top of spine. Overall a VG+ copy. NB apart from the pencilled note I have been unable to find any binders ticket or proof that the Broomhead was the binder. He was a bookbinding historian and wrote many articles plus books on The Zaehensdorfs and Orlando Jewitt.
