POEMS. Chosen and edited by William M. Rossetti. ---- The Golden Treasury series.
Book Description
Reprint of 1904 edition. Small 8vo. (6.1 x 4.2 inches). xxvi, 332pp. Portrait frontis, from a drawing made by Dante Gabriel Rossetti in 1865, still with its original plain tissue guard. Finely bound in very attractive early full dark brown morocco, extra gilt. The spine with raised bands each with a gilt floral decoration. Compartments decorated with gilt ruling, lettering, and elaborate floral design. Highly decorative floral design to boards in gilt, all within double gilt ruled and two dotted line borders. Boards wit gilt dotted lines to the edges. Inner Dentelles ruled fully decorated in gilt, surrounding off-white Moire silk centre pieces. Silk endpapers. All edges gilt. Neat three line inscription to the front blank endpaper. A little spotting to the blank endpapers at front and rear but the text pages are clean throughout. The binding is just a little rubbed to the extremities and some of the gilt on the boards a little dulled but overall this is a highly decorative, fine quality leather binding in very good condition. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a highly skilled bookbinder.
