                        Of The Decorative Illustration of Books Old and New by Walter Crane published by Bell, London 1901. In stiff decorated boards size 20 by 14 cm. 304 pages plus index and an appendix that contains another eleven half-tone plates. First published in 1896, this is the revised second edition with a new introduction by Crane that acknowledges his debt to William Morris and Gleeson White. Illustrated throughout with over 100 engravings. Crane’s text covers book illustration from Durer and his predecessors through to Beardsley by way of Blake, Rossetti, Greenaway, Housman, Burne-Jones, Bradley and Hokusai (amongst others).
