My Little Pansy People (Tuck's 1895 Brundage illustrated - Prize Competition)
Book Description
This is a fair to poor copy of an unusual Raphael Tuck book, dating to 1895. 'My Little Pansy People' by Ida Scott Taylor is very much in the Victorian illustrated children's book style, with elaborate verses and illustrations by Brundage (for your high-brow child!). The book, unusually, features prize competition pages top both front and rear - see photos - with children being encouraged to come up with their own prose or poetry quotations based on the book, with a first prize of £10 to be won (significant money at that time).
Book unfortunately is loose, with text block separated from both covers and end-papers together with prize competition pages. Otherwise, really very lovely with scalloped edge pages. A plush book in its day, in need of some careful restoration...
