Hardback. First edition. Epistolary novel, a sequel to Love Letters of a Chinese Lady. Lavishly illustrated by photographs mainly by Scottish photographer Donald Mennie with a frontis and 15 double-sided plates, totalling 31 illustrations. Bound in brown cloth with gilt title to front and spine a photographic paste-down to the front. This is the first known work of Donald Mennie, he didn’t published books under his own name until 1920. Mennie (1875-1944) lived and worked in China as a businessman. He died in Shanghi, possibly in Lunghwa Camp as an internee. Hint of softening to points. Very clean. Binding is sound.
