Lord Byron Manuscript Ephemera.
Book Description
A two page typed letter signed, from R. Trtton Antiques 120a Mount Street [now the offices of Mayfair estate agent Knight Frank] dated 19th March 1934 to Lord Nuffield the industrialist and philanthropist c/o of the Huntercombe Golf Club regarding the private sale of original holograph manuscripts purchased by him from his friend Colonel Sir John Murray when his father [Byron's publisher]died. He goes on to explain that these were in fact sold in conjunction with the bookseller Charles Sawyer but were subsequently returned and retained, owing to a reluctance to see them leave the country. Tritton suggests a price but remains open to offers and proposes that Trinity College [which Byron attended] would be a worthy home for them. He encloses the original auction catalogue with facsimile, and asks that the contents of the letter be kept entirely private. A unique piece of Byron ephemera.
