I WENT TO TRISTAN
Book Description
This uncommon book, particularly in an original dust wrapper, records the visit & work of the author who visited Tristan da Cunha as a surveyor with the Norwegian Expedition of 1937-38. He corrected substantial inaccuracies in existing charts, made his own maps of the island and was the first man from the outside world to climb its central peak. Perhaps more important than all this his isolated work brought him into contact with the 190 inhabitants of the island whom he found to be virile, kind & hospitable and he writes about them with attractive enthusiasm.
