William Dickes (1815-1892) was a licensee of the Baxter colour process, and the present set of ‘reward cards’ were printed by him for distribution at Sunday Schools and the like. Some of the images also appeared in 1868-9 as frontispieces in Jarrold & Sons’ series with titles beginning A Book for the Household ... The plates are titled: Evening; The sailor's return; The kind servant; The country walk; Monday morning; Temptation; The wedding day; "Fresh water-cress-e-s!"; Saturday night; Sunday morning; Industry; "I'm hungry ...".
