                                            Dealer Notes
                            Sir Upendranath Brahmachari (1873-1946) was an Indian Scientist and a leading medical practitioner of his time. His discoveries in the treatment of Kala-azar led to the saving of thousands of lives in India.
Brahmachari played an important part in the formation of the world’s second Blood Bank in Kolkata in 1939. He was the first Indian to become the Chairman of the Managing Body of the Indian Red Cross Society.
For his achievements, he received many awards & was conferred a Knighthood by the British Government (1934). He was a nominee for the Nobel Prize in 1929 in the category of Physiology and Medicine. A street in Kolkata is named in his honour.
