Hardback. First edition of this Beatrix Potter tale. Colour illustrated paste-down on buff coloured boards with green titles to front. Colour and black & white illustrations throughout. Larger format: 175 by 135mm (7 by 5¼ inches). Later re-issued in the more familiar small format but this larger format of the first edition allows the reader to enjoy Potter’s colour illustrations more fully. Spine has been relaid but is complete. Some external darkening and dustiness to the buff papers but the illustration to the front is bright. Binding a little stressed in places but still holding firm. Small area of loss to lower edge of title page. Previous owner’s neat inscription in pencil dated 1929. A very few minor marks internally, mainly to the prelims, the text is generally very clean and bright.
