As well as scientific work on terrestrial magnetism and atmospheric electricity, the expedition erected a memorial at Cape Sabine to Greely's expedition. The expedition wintered in 1923-24 on Inglefield Gulf. Macmillan had previously accompanied Peary on his 1908-9 North Pole expedition.
