British Forces in the Korean War
Book Description
Titles, contents list, foreword & introduction to front. When the Republic of Korea was invaded by the north on 25 June 1950, the British government declared its support for the United Nations Security Council resolutions calling for assistance to resist aggression. The Royal Navy was quickly in action off the Korean coast and in August the first British troops arrived. A total of about 40,000 British troops served in the war. The Royal Navy, along with ships of Commonwealth countries, maintained a constant blockade of the west coast. Small units of the Royal Air Force had auxiliary duties. All the contributors to this book served in the Korean War. Their pieces cover a wide spectrum of the war on land and sea. There are personal memories from two women nurses. The appendices include a list of Army and Air Force units and Royal Navy ships; Victoria Cross and George Cross citations and unit citations by the President of the United States and also the Republic of Korea.
